Traveling
at a maximum speed of 33 Km per hour, this ' toy train' to
Ooty in Tamilnadu, chugs across plains, plantation and forest
clad hills. The 16 tunnels and tall girder bridges on the
way, along with the breathtaking view, make this journey
to Ooty really memorable. For Ooty, Mettupalayam serves as
the railhead for mainline trains.

The Shivalik Deluxe Express, chugging
its way up the beautiful hill side, connects
the Howarh - Kalka mail for passenger going to Shimla. A luxury
train, the Shivalik Express has only one stop-Barog, in its 4
hrs 45 minutes journey.
The train offers modern fittings and amenities like wall to wall
carpet, cushioned chair, cabin for couples, music system, table
for meals, tube lights, microphone for communication with the
guard, improved toilet facilities, and much more.
The train also has an attached tourist coach called the Shivalik

One of the most enjoyable of India's toy train is the one
linking the town of New Jalpaiguri in the plains to the lovely
hill station of Darjeeling in West Bengal. The 86 Km long
journey up the mountains, offer stunning and breathtaking
view of the Himalayas.
Darjeeling has been accorded the position of a World Heritage
Site, and is the 2nd one to get this status in India. Special
impetus has also been given to the Darjeeling Siliguri sector
of Indian Railways. As part of this, the station building
and rolling stock have been restored to the original façade,
as far as possible. Siliguri, the starting point of the hill
train to Darjeeling, is well connected to Calcutta, Delhi,
Guwahati, and other place.

Matheran |
The
77 year old line, is the main route to reach the tiny hill
resort of Matheran, near Mumbai. As the little train wheezes
up into the clear mountain air one can view scenic vista
of hills and plain below. The journey up to Matheran takes
about one-and-a half hours.
The toy train commences from
Neral which is on the Mumbai-Pune line.
